  • New study reveals dating apps cause people to lower their standards. The study from Queensland University of Technology found that dating apps make people less fussy about their sexual partners. Researcher Stephen Whyte said: “People may state a preference for an ideal partner, but they are more than happy to initiate contact with potential love interests that bear no resemblance whatsoever to that ‘Mr or Mrs Perfect’ they initially think they prefer over all others.” (Queerty)

 

  • According to a new study, lesbians are more likely to orgasm than heterosexual women during sex. Only 65% of straight women said that they orgasm while engaging in sex, compared with 86% of lesbian women. Straight men said that they orgasm 95% of the time, with gay men claiming 89% (Springer)

 

  • A son comes out to his father in a Sydney Mardi Gras ad. In the ad, a son sitting next to his partner at a family meal stands up and makes an unexpected announcement to his family. (The Gaily Grind)

 

 

  • Chyna Gibson becomes the fifth trans woman of colour to be murdered in 2017. Gibson, who also went by the drag name Chyna Doll Dupree, was shot outside a New Orleans shopping centre last night. Witnesses reported hearing ten gunshots. (Autostraddle)

 

 

Oscars

  • Moonlight becomes the first ever LGBT movie to win Best Picture at The Oscars. A presenter’s blunder led to La La Land being incorrectly announced as the winner of this award and the La La Land recipients were already into their speeches before the mistake was corrected. (Attitude)

 

 

  • The Dickie Awards parodies this year’s Oscar nominees. Created by self-proclaimed “overzealous movie-love” Tommie Dickie, the 2016 Dickie Awards recreates some of this year’s biggest films with some breathtaking performances of his own. (Advocate)

 

 

  • This year’s Oscars were filled with anti-Trump sentiment due to his stance on LGBT rights and immigration. Even the ads during The Oscars were LGBT related, with ABC advertising Dustin Lance Black’s upcoming ‘When We Rise’ mini-series and same-sex couples featured in ads from Google & Revlon.
