WATCH: If I Was A Pet Shop Boy From 'The Paradise'

The Paradise written in neon colours

‘The Paradise’ is an Irish electro-pop rom-com musical with fantastically catchy songs

The Paradise is a musical set in both the early nineties and present day, around the closure of Dublin’s oldest gay nightclub.

In a press release for The Paradise, the premise of the musical is set out:

“Dublin’s oldest gay nightclub is closing down. A group of old friends gather to see the place off, and relive their youth for one final night. But when Colm, who none of them had seen for twenty years after he disappeared without a word turns up at the club, it quickly becomes clear that there are some old scores that need settling. Are there some things that just can’t be forgiven?”

The music in The Paradise is from Irish duo, Eden, who’s electro-pop sound has, as Director Howard Lodge put it, “some real ear-worm tunes”.

“This is a very entertaining night out, with some real ear-worm turned, and a great story of loss, regret and redemption,” Lodge said.

“It also lets us have a look at the changes that have happened for the gay community over the last 20 years in Ireland, reflected in the way the lives of the main characters evolve between the two acts. As you’d expect with anything Sean writes, there are some very funny moments too!”

Written and produced by Sean Denyer, The Paradise will be performed in The Complex, Little Green St, Dublin as part of the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival from 1-6 May at 9pm.
