Hypocritical Conversion Therapist Found With Gay Hook-Up Site Profiles

Norman Goldwasser claimed to be able to treat "unwanted bisexuality" and compared homosexuality to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

US therapist Norman Goldwasser who for many years has peddled the dangerous notion that he can treat and cure same-sex attraction has been discovered advertising for hook-ups on gay dating sites such as Manhunt and Bear Nation.

Truth Wins Out (TWO), a US non-profit organisation “that works to demolish the very foundation of anti-gay prejudice” discovered the profiles and shared Goldwasser’s hypocrisy. Their Executive Director, Wayne Besen, stated: “Norman Goldwasser’s double life of unconscionable lies highlights the rank hypocrisy and predatory nature of the fraudulent ‘ex-gay’ industry. We urge every state to ban the scourge of conversion therapy that attacks the mental health of LGBT youth and puts them in harms way.”

The therapist, with the profile name Hotnhairy72, has a controversial history of pushing the benefits of conversion therapy. He co-authored a paper entitled Holistic Therapy: A Comprehensive, Clinical Approach to the Treatment of SSA (Same Sex Attraction) which compared it to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

He was also linked to the now defunct group Jews Offering New Alternatives to Homosexuality (JONAH) and was a signatory of a paper titled Declaration of the Torah Approach to Homosexuality which stated “A propaganda blitz has been sweeping the world using political tactics to persuade the public about the legitimacy of homosexuality”. As well as profiling his ability to cure “unwanted bisexual” attraction at $280 a session, at a talk in Israel in 2015, he also linked homosexuality to sexual abuse.

When contacted by TWO, the therapist admitted to being in the wrong but told the non-profit: “If you want to prove a point then please doing so without destroying my ability to support my family.”

TWO spokesperson Besen continued: “Goldwasser can’t claim his personal life is none of our business when trying to ‘cure’ LGBT people is his business. Here is a case where a charlatan is committing consumer fraud by misleading clients and adversely affecting their mental health. We are particularly concerned when Goldwassser’s scam preys on young people susceptible to his charade.”
