A little about Dublin Lesbian Line…

  • We started in 1979 and have been supporting the LGBTQ community ever since!
  • Dublin Lesbian Line is operated exclusively by highly trained volunteers.
  • All of our volunteers identify as female and somewhere along the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer (LGBTQ) spectrum.
  • We offer support to those who need it – we’re not just for Dublin and not just for lesbians!
  • Our goal is to provide a supportive, confidential, non-judgmental helpline to those in need and expand our service accordingly.
  • Currently we operate on Monday and Thursday from 18:30 – 21:00
  • Our ethos is to provide a high quality service and to grow our helpline with integrity.
  • We are a registered charity in Ireland (CHY12256).
  • We love to listen…a lot!

Male Callers

We understand that it is sometimes easier to discuss problems with someone of the opposite sex. At Dublin Lesbian Line we receive many calls from male callers who wish to talk to a female about the current problems or issues in their lives, or even for information. Feel free to call if you would like to talk to one of our team! Alternatively, if you wish to talk to an accredited Counsellor, Psychotherapist or Psychologist, we have compiled a list of support specialists for your convenience. It may also be helpful to navigate our list of Organisations and social/support groups to gain further social support in your area.

Parents & Families

It can be an uncertain time for parents when they discover that their child is attracted to the same sex. Many parents fear that their child will not have the same opportunities or chance of happiness as a heterosexual person. Many of the parents we talk to are concerned primarily that their child will face discrimination or they will not be able to settle down and have a family. Although we still have some way to go, we are making steady progress in Ireland with respect to legal recognition of same sex couples and families.

It may help you know that there are many gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people around you on a daily basis who live healthy, productive lives. In fact, lots of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender people go on to have successful committed relationships and families. If you would like to learn more about the progress of legal recognition for same sex couples and families in Ireland, please see Ireland’s Marriage Equality and NOISE website. Please call us if you have any concerns, worries or fears about your child’s sexuality or see below for a list of support and informational resources.
