12 Summer Guilty Pleasures

will-smith

It’s a scorcher out there! Get out your factor 50, light up the BBQ, break out some mojitos and throw on this playlist to take you back to all your cheesy summers of yesteryear.

1. The Thong Song – SisQo

SisQo’s biggest hit is arguably the best, worst, catchiest song about ladies swimwear.

2. Summer Love – Justin Timberlake

A slick beat, loads of bass and JT’s signature sexy breathes. Oh, swoon!

3. Steal My Sunshine – LEN

Super naff, and horribly annoying… but always has us singing along.

4. California Gurls – Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg

A more recent entry, but we reckon that Katy’s ode to her home state of California will be making it onto summer playlists for years to come.

5. Crazy in Love – Beyoncé

Fresh out of Destiny’s Child, long before they were Drunk In Love, Bey and her soon to be hubby Jay Z collaborated for the first time and the result was this ultimate dancefloor filler. It was the soundtrack to the summer of 2003, and to be fair, the rest of our lives.

6. Hot in Herre – Nelly

In Ireland, it’s rare that it gets so hot that we need to strip off. When such a glorious day does happen, it’s only right that we should sing about it.

7. Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison

Van Morrison takes us back to a simpler time when we spent our summers “laughin’ and a-runnin'”

8. Ghetto Supastar – Pras ft. Mya

The ex-Fugee’s debut single was THE hit of the summer of 1998.

9. Miami – Will Smith

Hip-hop’s most wholesome rapper really loves spending summer in Miami. Where can we get that lime green shirt and white tanktop combo?

10. Genie in a Bottle – Christina Aguilera

Xtina’s debut summer classic launched the teenager into pop super stardom in 1999.

11. California Love – 2Pac

One of the late rappers finest offerings to the summer Gods.

12. Summertime – Fresh Prince ft. DJ Jazzy Jeff

What can we say? Will Smith knows how to get you into the summer mood. After 24 years, Summertime remains one of the best summer hits of all time.
