Dating apps, apps about safety, or even apps about the latest news- there are so many choices out there, it’s hard to know which one to get. Never fear, because here are five of the best queer apps you should download.

Safe Date

Whether you’re using Tindr, Grindr, or HER- safety always comes first. This is where Safe Date comes in. Just add your date plans into the app, privately choose your ‘Safe Mates’ (friends or family members) from your contacts, and set a safe time to check in after your date finishes.

When your date finishes, check-in before your safe time and it won’t send an alert to your Safe Mates. If you don’t check-in, your Safe Mates are notified with the details of your date.

misterb&b

As seen on RuPaul’s Drag Race, misterb&b helps you experience a more welcoming world. From private rooms and apartments to LGBTQ+ friendly hotels, you have the option to stay in the heart of LGBTQ+ districts as well as other neighbourhoods in the places you visit. You can also activate the connection option on your profile and connect with other misterb&b travellers at your destination city or hotel!

Lex

is the text-centred social app that connects queer lovers and friends. (formerly known as ) was inspired by the personal ads in On Our Backs, a women-run erotica magazine of the ’80s and ’90s. The personals were written by lesbians and detailed their desires and romantic requirements. Download the app here.

EVA

Featured in Caitlyn Jenner’s docu-series, I Am Cait, this app helps users train their voices to sound more feminine or masculine (respectively). EVA (Exceptional Voice App) was developed by speech pathologist Kathe Perez, who works exclusively with members of the trans community. She says, “We can all talk. We do it every day. But sometimes the voice that comes out isn’t an accurate reflection of who we really are. That’s where I come in. As a certified speech pathologist, I’ve worked with thousands of people to help them discover the voice they were meant to have.”

GCN

Support GCN

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.

During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.

GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
