The seasoned comedians Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang have released teaser images of their upcoming gay rom-com Fire Island on their social media platforms.
The movie follows Noah (Joel Kim Booster) and his group of friends who leave for a week-long holiday at the titular LGBTQ+ destination. Starring alongside the two leads are Zane Phillips, Torian Miller, Margaret Cho, James Scully, Matt Rogers, and Tomas Matos.
Whilst away on their trip, the group experience steamy hookups, hilarious encounters and moments that will test the strength of their friendship.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Booster shared his feelings about his project, “We made something really, really special and unique and gay”.
The movie is heavily inspired by Jane Austen’s iconic book Pride and Prejudice and the reason behind that is explained further by Booster: “Jane Austen’s observations about the way people are awful to each other without being awful to each other—I was like, Oh, my God. This is shade. This is what gay men do all the time.”
In addition to its place within the romantic comedy genre, the film will also highlight race, class and oppression within the LGBTQ+ community. “What happens when gay men are put together on an island and there are no straight people to oppress us? How do we oppress each other?”
Booster’s expressed his hopes for the gay rom-com: “I want people – especially gay men, especially queer people – to walk away from the movie happy that they’re gay.” As well as offering a beacon of hope within the community, “I want people to come away from this movie feeling joy of our experiences and that it’s not all tragic. There are many of us out here living our lives joyfully.”
Fire Island premieres exclusively on Hulu this July 3.
