Prior to his untimely death in 2016, George Michael began working on what is now known to be a “special documentary film” – Freedom Uncut, which will premiere previously unseen archive footage showcasing Michael’s impressive career.
So-called the “Modern-day Elvis” in the documentary’s new trailer, fans can expect an in-depth look at the life of Michael following his hugely successful Faith up until his 1990 album release, Listen Without Prejudice, Vol 1. The documentary will also take an intimate look at the death of his mother and the dynamic between Michael and his late partner, Anselmo Feleppa, who passed away from AIDS complications, according to Instinct Magazine.
“I can’t really explain how overwhelming that kind of hysteria can be,” says Michael in a voiceover heard in the recently released trailer. “I remember thinking I really don’t know if I’ll ever do this again.”
Michael’s voice is set against scenes of cheering fans and paparazzi snapping pictures, highlighting the immense pressure the singer-songwriter must have been under.
“You have a right to walk away,” the voiceover continues. “The music industry takes away that right from every artist it signs.”
As well as following the many creative eras of George Michael, the film will also feature appearances from some big names including Elton John, Mary J Blige, Naomi Campbell, Mark Ronson, Ricky Gervais and James Cordon, among many others.

A post on the star’s Instagram page from November 2016 poignantly reads; “George Michael is busy putting the finishing touches to his special documentary film ‘Freedom. He has discovered some incredible, unseen archive footage and is shooting additional interviews for the project so the film will now air in March 2017. It promises to be a real treat for fans!”
“I want to leave songs – I believe I can leave songs that will mean something to other generations,” the late artist said.
