The 17th season of Big Brother US airs this summer, and will feature the series’ first trans contestant, Audrey Middleton.

In terms of diversity, the US adaptation of Big Brother is a little behind it’s UK counterpart, but now it gets it’s first trans housemate.

Audrey Middleton, a 25 year-old digital media consultant from a tiny town in Georgia is a Big Brother super fan according to a spokesperson from CBS, and was open about her transition from the get go and intends to be throughout the series.

“It is customary for ‘Big Brother’ houseguests to share personal news inside the house, and Audrey plans to discuss her story with the houseguests in her own words during the premiere episode on Wednesday, June 24,” said the CBS rep.

According to her bio on CBS’ website, she is a former competitive swimmer and MMA Ring Girl. She loves to “look fabulous head-to-toe, but also isn’t afraid to get dirty.”

“I think that I’m bringing in a very versatile perspective of a character that hasn’t been brought before,” Middleton said in her introduction video. “I will not float. I will make bold moves and I will get blood on my hands. Heads will roll!”

How does she think America will respond to her? “I think there’s a chance I could be a misunderstood hero, but I’m going to be a hero.”

While Middleton is the first trans housemate on the US version of Big Brother, Nadia Almada became the first trans housemate to win the contest in the fifth series of Big Brother UK in 2004.
