Mission
The mission of UP Cork is to provide a community based response to the needs of LGBTQ+ young people by offering them opportunities for active participation and inclusion in addressing issues that affect them and for personal and social development.
Here at UP Cork, we believe that LGBTQ+ young people are entitled to the same rights and privileges as other young people, and when supported in their communities they will thrive as healthy, happy and equal citizens.
About
The project provides one-to-one and group support to allow LGBTQ+ young people to safely engage with confidence building, personal development, peer support and making friends. It also affords young people a space where they can experience inclusion, acceptance, social justice, fun and safety.
The group meets on a weekly basis. Programme activities to date have included a series of short-term projects such as drama, self-defence, drug awareness, mental health / peer support and come dine with me. We also have long-term projects such as the rap project and the youth exchange programme.
The group has regular events and activities including Christmas and Halloween parties, film and games nights and day trips. Some day trips to date have included visits to Trabolgan, the Mitchelstown Caves, Nightmare Realm, Leisureplex, ice-skating, horse riding, the cinema and much more. We also have weekend residential trips where we network with other youth groups around the country.
