The Transgender Pride flag, which represents international trans communities, is flying on UCC’s iconic Quad this week. The flag was presented to the university by Vanessa Lacey of TENI, and is part of the University’s growing commitment to trans and gender non-binary staff and students, at the heart of which will be a Gender Identity and Expression Policy.

UCC President, Professor Patrick O’Shea, will officially launch UCC’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Unit today, Tuesday, March 6.

UCC’s Staff LGBT Network, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last October, will host a unique event at the Creative Zone on March 7 at 7pm, focused on ‘how to be a good LGBT+ ally at home, at work and in everyday life’. Speakers will include Bella FitzPatrick from Shout Out and Margie Fennelly from Loving Our Out Kids, who aim to improve the lives of LGBT+ young people and families.

Events will also focus on differently abled and disabled people in various contexts, including a talk by Dr John Bosco Conama, Trinity College Dublin, this Friday on Ireland’s journey towards the recently-enacted Irish Sign Language Act.
