Queer Productions Scoop Awards At Dublin Fringe Festival

Last night saw the announcement of this year's winners of the Dublin Fringe Festival, with queer productions taking home two awards.

The past two weeks have seen a terrific array of theatre performances as part of this years Dublin Fringe Festival, exploring themes from female sexuality to club culture. This year’s festival was arguably the most exciting, and last night the winners of 11 different categories, including Best Production and Best Ensemble, were announced in Healy’s bar on Dame Street. 

We saw queer productions scoop up some prizes on the night, with Overfired, by Stefan Fae and Lady K, winning the Outburst Queer Fringe Award. The Outburst Queer Fringe Award can go to a mixture of fierce new queer performance, film, theatre, art activism and creative ideas from all over the world, and the winner of the award is invited to bring their work to Belfast as part of the programme this November.

Meanwhile, Glitter Hole’s Fianna Fellatio Party won the second Judge’s Choice Award, while Black Jam: Cure by Fried Plantains Collective came in first.

Also bagging an award was Anna Shiels McNamee’s My Dad’s Blind, winning Best Production for displaying excellence in every area of its production including design, performance, concept and execution.

Fionn Foley for Brendan Galileo For Europe.
Zoe Ní Riordan for Everything I Do (One Two, One Two).

 

Best Ensemble Award

Fishamble New Writing Award

The Cat’s Mother by Ericka Murray.

 

First Fortnight Award

INFINITY by Eoghan Carrick & Neasa Matthews.

 

Next Stage Wild Card Award

Shana May Breen for The Sound of Phoenix.

 

Bewley’s Cafe Theatre ‘Little Gem’ Award

Brendan Galileo For Europe by Fionn Foley.

 

Spirit of Wit: Moira Brady Averill Award

Reckless Ross from Spit (Double Bill).

 

Although not a winner, a highlight of the festival was Drip feed, written and performed by GCN Magazine star Karen Cogan.

Another exciting highlight was Viva Voce by Lauren Shannon Jones.
