Alex Reid says: ‘I guess I am. Why not be trans?’
The cage-fighter mocked up a photo of Caitlyn Jenner for Star magazine by dressing up as his female persona Roxanne. In the interview, the 40-year-old reality TV star claims he ‘identifies’ as trans.
He said: ‘Ever since I was a child I’ve been happy to dress up and play different characters,’ adding he ‘looks up’ to Caitlyn as a role model.
‘Bruce was mocked because trans people are the last social taboo,’ Reid said. ‘We don’t have the same rights. Wow, I just said “we”. I guess I am. Why not be trans?’ He later added, ‘I could have been a woman.’
Explaining he doesn’t like ‘labels’, he said: ‘I believe we’re all souls. I could have been a woman. When the lights are off, we’re all souls.’
Alex, who is engaged to personal trainer Nikki Manashe, says he’s making a documentary about his Roxeanne because she’s become “the butt of so many jokes”.
Earlier this year his ex Katie Price spoke about their sex life during on Celebrity Big Brother causing upset for Reid.
“That was horrible. I wrote her a good luck message when she went on and now I cringe. Maybe I should stop being so nice,” he said.
Reid had previously referred to dressing up as Roxanne as a ‘bit of fun’:
‘I’ve dressed up as a woman and it’s a laugh, If I go out and wear a dress, so fucking what?…I’m not one of those guys who likes to go to the supermarket dressed as a woman and I don’t want a sex change,’ he said to Now magazine in 2009.
