Luxury retailer, Barneys New York has selected 17 transgender men and women to model the Spring 2014 collections by the likes of  Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and Lanvin.

Barneys has partnered with two leading trans rights groups, the National Centre for Transgender Equality (NCTE) and the LGBT Community Centre (The Centre) on the fashion campaign titled Brothers, Sisters, Sons and Daughters.

The retailer says that the aim of the campaign is to share the personal and unique stories of the 17 individuals on a national stage. Barneys New York hopes to help break stereotypes and build social acceptance of transgender people—long-standing goals of both The Centre and NCTE.

The models, shot by Bruce Weber, will be showcased in a limited-edition portfolio. They will also star in a series of short films by the iconic fashion photographer. The campaign will highlight “both the struggles and triumphs a trans person may face in relation to their gender identity.”
