Popsessed, the weekly pop culture podcast, is celebrating Pride with a special Pride episode. Popsessed is hosted by Conor Behan, GCN columnist and resident DJ at The George, and Holly Shortall, activist with ACT UP Dublin and communications ‘profesh’. The show has often touched on LGBT+ issues (as well as salacious celebrity gossip- from Taylor Swift’s divisive new music to James Charles and Tati Westbrook’s YouTube drama).
The podcast launched at the end of 2018 and has had over 100,000 downloads already. Their regular features include Deserved Not Deserved and Neck of the Week which have been highly popular among listeners. Recently, the show was picked up by sponsor Just Eat.
A nice talk in this #Popsessed podcast about Stephen's coming out and it being an important LGBTQ pop culture moment, starting at 15:15 until the 24:00 mark. Give it a listen! ?https://t.co/9bktbByrxA#StephenGately #RememberingSteo #PrideMonth #LoveIsLove https://t.co/kPjmdCuouR

The Popsessed duo have decided that Pride is an opportunity for the show to go a little deeper. For the Pride special, Behan and Shortall look at some of their favourite LGBT+ pop culture moments: ones that brought back memories of learning something new or feeling a bit less alone in the world. They look at everything from the impact of Stephen Gately coming out to seeing queer representation on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and lots more.
Even their ‘Neck of the Week’ feature is Pride-related. The hosts also discuss their own Guide to Pride where they delve into the importance of Pride, how to be an ally year-round as well as useful tips on how to make the most of the official Pride day itself.
Aside from the podcast, you can catch both Behan and Shortall at the Pride festivities on Saturday June 29. Behan will be at the Pride Parade DJing the Dropbox float and later doing a set at Mother’s sold out Block Party. Holly will be with Pride Grand Marshall, Will St Leger, leading the Pride Parade with the U=U message together with their fellow ACT UP Dublin members.
Am tearing up listening to @hollyshortall discuss Princess Diana and her HIV/AIDS activism. I remember reading her famous quote as a teen and it making an impact on me and I still think about it today. #popsessed pic.twitter.com/4do8nKiZpn
