A group of “conversion therapy” practitioners are set to host a public meeting about the upcoming marriage equality referendum today.
The event, which was originally scheduled to take place at the Pillo Hotel in Galway before being cancelled by the venue ahead of expected protests, is titled ‘Yes or No, a faith perspective on issues concerning same-sex marriage’.
Covenant Christian Fellowship church member Bill Hamilton, an advocate of “conversion therapy”, organised the meeting after claiming that the debate on the subject is mired in political “bias”, reports The Irish Examiner.
Hamilton, an Evangelical Christian, also said the purpose of the meeting was to give full information to the public on how the “gay lifestyle” can be avoided.
The meeting will hear from Mike Davidson, a director of the UK-based Core Issues Trust, which claims that being gay is a matter of choice and conversion therapy (also know as ‘reparative therapy’) can alter a person’s sexuality.
Despite lacking a location, Hamilton has said that the event will still go ahead. Somewhere.
