A woman in Azerbaijan murdered her sister by slitting her throat because she was a lesbian.
A 20 year-old music student, Günel Nuriyevani, was killed by her 19 year-old sister in her home in the capital city of Baku. Parvana Nuriyevanin (pictured) was arrested after stabbed her sister once, before slitting her throat.
She told police, “She often came home with lesbians and slept with them in our mother’s bed. When I found out about it, I asked her to stop, but she did not.
“A demon possessed me and told me in my dreams that the time had come to kill my sister. I couldn’t bear it.”
Although the investigation continues, Parvana has been charged with murder. Police told local media that “this is a hate crime against LGBT people.”
Although the country does not recognise same-sex unions, homosexual acts were decriminalised in Azerbaijan in 2000.
