Dolly Parton is making another movie! The country singer is returning to the big screen in the film adaptation of her new book and we couldn’t be more excited about it!

Dolly Parton co-wrote her first novel Run, Rose Run with the well-known author James Patterson and it shot to the top of the New York Times bestseller list when it was released earlier this month

The story is about a young singer and songwriter on the rise and on the run, determined to do whatever it takes to survive. “Nashville is where she’s come to claim her destiny. It’s also where the darkness she’s fled might find her. And destroy her.” Sounds good, right?

In addition to that intriguing blurb, there is also an additional explanation of the plot: “The source of her heart-wrenching songs is a brutal secret she has tried desperately to hide, but the past she has fled is reaching out to control her future — and it may destroy everything she has worked for.”

Dolly has been a lifelong philanthropist and has her own book charity called Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) which provides free books to children in order to encourage intellectual ability and a lifelong love of reading – so the release of her novel is extremely exciting!

Reese Witherspoon announced on her Instagram that her media company Hello Sunshine will be producing the movie adaption of Run, Rose, Run.

The media company is also behind hit shows such as Big Little Lies and films such as Wild and Gone Girl.

Witherspoon made a statement about the country singing icon: “Growing up in Nashville, I’ve loved Dolly since the moment I heard her magical voice and saw her luminous personality shine onstage.”

Reese is a Dolly Parton stan and can you blame her? “Beyond her magnetic presence as an artist and performer, she is one of the greatest songwriters and storytellers of our time. Her impact knows no bounds – as a musician, actor, writer, businesswoman, activist and all around incredible human being.”

The book really struck a chord with Witherspoon, as she explained, “My admiration for her grew to even greater heights when reading Run, Rose, Run, a gripping and heartbreaking book I couldn’t put down. I couldn’t feel more honoured to be working alongside her and James to bring this remarkable story to the screen.”

What does Dolly Parton have to say about her next movie? She states that she is “proud, excited and honoured to be working with (her) good friend Reese Witherspoon.”

Along with the novel and the film adaptation, Parton has also released an album of the same name featuring songs based on the characters.

Miss Dolly is booked and busy! More information about the book can be found here.
