Drag Race UK episode one: everything that had us gooped and gagged

The wait is over for Drag Race UK and we at GCN Towers are already obsessed with the first gaggle of queens.

Drag Race UK Judges

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Drag Race UK season one episode one.

After months of anticipation, Drag Race UK finally hit our screens and it did not dissapoint. Here are our top moments from episode one of the British version of the reality TV sensation.

Cashless Country

It seems as though this is going to be more RuPaul’s Best Friend Race as everyone’s a winner with no prize money for the overall winner. The winner gets a web series on Wow Presents Plus.

Many have speculated that this is because the BBC can not advertise or accept sponsorships, but BBC have yet to clarify this.

Regardless of a cash prize for the winner, many of the Queens make most of their money post Drag Race from touring and merch.

Michelle Visage told Gay Times: “I know [the queens] are used to making 50 quid, working their arses off for not a lot of money.

“I’m hoping the show can get their fees raised and they get to go on tour, go to other countries. The American queens always get the attention and the gigs, but now this is an opportunity for the UK kids to become the superstars that they are.”

Fresh Judges, Humour and Personalities

Season One of Drag Race UK is off to a flying start. The ten Queens have made HERstory as the first to compete for the UK title of Drag Race Superstar.

The ten Queens lept into gear and most(!) let their charisma uniqueness nerve and talent shine from the moment they lept through the WERK Room doors.

The likes of Baga Chips, The Vivienne and Sum Ting Wong made us very excited for this season. The Vivienne has already given us a stellar Kim Woodburn and Pete Burns impressions.

Needless to say we are super excited for Snatch Game.

We are living for the British slang and Ru trying to work out what a queen has just said. For example, Baga Chipz seems to love calling herself a gobshite which was very enjoyable.

Alan Carr

Alan Carr deserves an Emmy for his description of Gothy Kendoll’s Queen of her Hometown look. Bow down bitches.
