At least three users of Growlr, the social dating app for bears, have reported being victims of violent attacks and robberies in Dublin, The Outmost has learned.

It is believed members of the Dublin bear community are being targeted by Growlr user, whose profile is accompanied by a photo which shows his real identity.

Gardaí have advised that the Growlr attacker’s photo should not be published, in case revealing the attacker’s identity will compromise any future legal action against him.

Tom O’Connor, Head of Dublin Bears social group, said: “Dublin Bears tries to create an environment for guys of all ages that is safe and enjoyable. We are working closely with the Garda Diversity Officers, as well as other gay social networks to ensure this person is apprehended”.

In the meantime, Dublin Bears urge all users of Growlr as well as other apps to take precautions to ensure their own safety when going on dates with unknowns.

A Growlr representative has responded to an email for comment saying,”Thank you so much for taking the time to personally let us know about this issue. We have taken the liberty of suspending his account from our service. If you see any active account from this user again, please let us know immediately, as if he has multiple devices, he may be able to create another profile”.
