The world is a lot right now, so you may need to take a little time for yourself. I have a recommendation: Listen to some feel-good queer podcasts that will make you laugh. As the saying goes, laughter is the best medicine – it’s therapeutic! By listening to one (or all) of the podcasts below, you can support LGBTQ+ creatives while having a good giggle. You can feel good and do good at the same time.

Bad Dates
Hosted by queer comedian, actor and producer, Joel Kim Booster, this show has a simple premise. Three guests, usually comedians, tell their funny bad date stories, and the group discusses what they can learn from it and mostly make fun out of it. They also respond to listener stories. You can learn how good you have it with your partner or be glad you are single. Joel Kim Booster has quipped on occasion that he hopes the show makes listeners feel better about themselves. I am catching up on old episodes, so it is my usual after-work decompress therapy.

I’m Grand Mam
The lads from Cork don’t always cover light-hearted topics, but they generally do have a bit of a laugh during their weekly catch-up covering their trials, tribulations and triumphs. Their natural chemistry as best friends really shines through, and it is nice being part of that dynamic for a bit. Also, PJ Kirby and Kevin Twomey are a fun follow on Instagram, too, if you want some additional laughs.

Shooting the Breeze with The Wild Geeze
I was having ‘one of those days’ recently and decided that, instead of finishing the serious podcast I was listening to, I’d stick on the latest episode from entertainers Laura LaVelle and Breda Larkin. Long story short, I ended up laughing on public transport. I particularly love their section on their dads, as I can relate. The girls talk about their shows and their everyday lives and generally shoot the breeze. They were recently on The Tommy Tiernan Show and Fair City! Breda, who is a farmer, also has cute animal content on her Instagram.

Your Internet Boyfriends
A newcomer to the world of podcasts sees London-based comedians Mark T. Cox and Denis Len catch up on the events of their week and cover topical items. I enjoy the humour that arises when Mark has to explain how certain things work in the LGBTQ+ world to his straight friend Denis. I find their friendship to be a great model for others as they are open with each other and aren’t afraid to ask each other questions. It’s also a good laugh.
