This September, Finland will release stamps featuring the “confident and proud homoeroticism” of Tom of Finland.

Tom of Finland – the pseudonym of Touko Laaksonen (1920-1991) – is considered one of the most well-known Finnish artists around the world, having produced more that 3,500 drawings of ultra masculine men during his feted career.

The two drawings on the stamp sheet were selected by graphic artist Timo Berry, who designed the stamp, and Susanna Luoto, the Finnish representative of the foundation named after Tom of Finland operating in Los Angeles, reports Itella Posti, Finland’s postal website. The stamp sheets contain three stamps, ultimately comprising a larger overall image.

“The sheet portrays a sensual life force and being proud of oneself. There is never too much of that in this northern country,” says Timo Berry.

The sheet comprising of three self-adhesive stamps will be published on September 8th and will be accompanied by the exhibition Sealed with a Secret – Correspondence of Tom of Finland in the Finnish Postal Museum.

All stamps will be available in September from Itella Posti’s website.

In 1995, Tom of Finland Clothing Company introduced a fashion line based on his works, which covers a wide array of looks besides the typified cutoff-jeans-and-jacket style of his drawings.
