Irish queer production company Rock Bottom Saloon has announced its inaugural work, Clyde Inside. The exciting new play written and produced by David Monaghan, Denny Redmond and Jack Maguire, follows a gay couple who attempt to save their troubled relationship through unorthodox means: a DIY porn shoot.

Described as “a hyperbolic, satirical, gender disruptive exploration of the performativity and voyeurism embedded in all our lives,” it interrogates the dynamic of the dissatisfied pair throughout the events of one evening in 2005. The multimedia elements of the play are what make it truly unique, with the DIY porn shoot being projected on screen as the action happens on stage. The live feed not only highlights the talent, but also the underlying moments that only the camera can pick up.

The cast includes Sorcha Dawson as the titular Clyde, as well as Denny Redmond, Evie May O’Brien and Jimmy Kavanagh. It is directed by Ois O’Donoughue, creator of Jaxbanded Theatre and the Dublin Fringe Festival 2023 hit Hyper.

Clyde Inside will debut as part of the 2024 Scene + Heard Festival of New Work. The 25-minute show will be performed on Tuesday, February 20 and Wednesday, February 21, in Dublin’s Smock Alley Theatre’s Main Space at 6:30pm. It is programmed as part of a double bill with Sam Noonan’s Transitions, a piece dedicated to movement as a powerful communicator and instrument of change.

Tickets for Clyde Inside are available here, with prices starting at €13 plus fees.

This year’s Scene + Heard Festival encompasses 110 works in total, including fantastic queer highlights like Starfighter, Rose+Bud, Cornucopia Jones Wants You to Succeed!, Welcome to the Haus of Sapph-Bros, Who Robbed Annie Queeries?, Safety In Sequins, and A Proud, Ill-Natured Bi.

The 2024 Scene + Heard Festival takes place from February 15 to March 2, with the programme having officially launched on Tuesday, January 16. To view it in full and for more information, click here.
