GCN is proud to present So You Think You Can Drag, a brand-new fundraising initiative and our first amateur drag competition. Taking place on Friday, March 14, at The George, there’s no better way to kick off your St. Patrick’s weekend festivities.
The event will be hosted by the fabulous Davina Devine, with notable figures from the queer community competing for the crown, all while raising much-needed funds in support of Ireland’s free national LGBTQ+ media.
Sashaying their way onto the stage in their finest drag will be social media stars Keelin Moncrieff and Jack Swift, Trinity Students’ Union President and activist Jenny Maguire, representatives from sports clubs Shamrock Sióga and Na Gaeil Aeracha, plus more to be announced! Keep an eye out on our socials for the latest updates on our fabulous cast.
Expect lipsyncing, comedy, music and dance galore, as our cohort of budding drag superstars join GCN in literally serving the community under the watchful eye of Davina Devine. Each act will perform a short number, with the winner decided by you – our gorgeous audience.
If that weren’t enough, our friends at Absolut Vodka and The George are treating attendees to special Absolut drink offers throughout the night, so don’t miss out on this fabulous occasion that is guaranteed to put the ‘fun’ in fundraising! Tickets are on sale now via Eventbrite.
Speaking about the event, Davina Devine said: “I’m delighted to be taking part in the cross-community fundraiser for GCN. GCN has supported every aspect of the community for decades and it’s always a pleasure to give back, especially at a super fun event in The George, a queer safe space and mothership of many LGBTQ+ people.”
GCN Manager Stefano Pappalardo added: “We’re super excited to partner up with the fabulous Davina Devine and our friends at The George and Absolut for this brand-new drag competition and fundraising event.
“This is a great way for the community to get together, celebrate queer talent, and raise vital funds for GCN – all in a night packed with never-before-seen performances from some of our queer faves. Money raised will go directly into supporting GCN, to ensure we can continue our mission of informing, educating, connecting, platforming, and entertaining the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland.”
With a not-for-profit model, GCN operates on limited funds and resources and has been greatly impacted by rising business costs, like rent, electricity and paper. Amid an increasingly hostile global political climate and the rise of hate and misinformation, now more than ever, our community needs a free, accessible, independent media organisation that tells our side of the story.
If you can’t make it to this fabulous event but would like to support the work we do, you can donate what you can here.

GCN is a trading name of National LGBT Federation CLG, a registered charity - Charity Number: 20034580.
GCN relies on the generous support of the community and allies to sustain the crucial work that we do. Producing GCN is costly, and, in an industry which has been hugely impacted by rising costs, we need your support to help sustain and grow this vital resource.
Supporting GCN for as little as €1.99 per month will help us continue our work as Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
