Darren Criss will don the heels and fishnets as Hedwig Robinson in the Broadway revival of ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’.
It was announced that Criss will play German transgender rock singer, Hedwig in the revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the rock musical that first opened in 1998.
Darren Criss, who is famous for his role as Blaine Anderson in Glee, will step into the title role for a limited run when the current star John Cameron Mitchell (who also co-created the show) leaves the production in April. Criss will be the fifth actor to take on the role since it’s Broadway revival early last year, with Neil Patrick Harris being the first and nabbing a Tony Award for his efforts.
This isn’t the first time Criss has hit the Broadway stage. In 2012, he succeeded Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. For the short three weeks that Criss played lead, the show shattered the box office and earned over $4 million – the most profitable three weeks during the show’s 11 month run.
Criss will star as Hedwig, starting April 26 for a 12 week-run.
