"I’d Never Go On Grindr," says ex-Westlife star, Markus Feehily

Feehily Markus

In an exclusive interview with GCN this month, Markus Feehily talks about the difficulties he experienced as a single gay man after the split up with his fiancé.

Feehily, whose solo debut album, Fire, has been garnering rave reviews opened up to GCN about his break-up from partner of seven years, Kevin McDaid, and how going on Grindr was not an option for him as a single gay man.

“After Kevin and I split up, I was too scared to be on Grindr,” he said. “I’m not one of those people that would frown upon Grindr at all, but your man from Westlife’s turning up on it?”

The ex-Westlife singer, who came out as gay in 2005, said he found single life difficult to navigate.

“I got a bit kind of messed around in the single world, maybe just because I had never been in it before. It was my first time in the single world as an out guy, and there were a lot of dark things happening.”

But Feehily revealed that he has found love again, with an Irish guy.

“I didn’t like being alone because I was alone for long enough before I came out,” he said. “I’m really content now and happy, and definitely back in love. It would seem like I’ve landed back on my feet again.”

Good man, Markus!
