Galway city is always vibrant and friendly, and never is it more so than during the annual week-long Pride celebrations, which are some of the longest running in the country. From local LGBT+ artists exhibiting their work, to events for all in the queer family, to nights on the dancefloor, and of course, the Pride Parade and annual street party, there’s something for everyone this year, and then some! Here’s the complete lowdown on what’s happening:
Monday, August 7
Flag Raising: Eyre Square: 1pm
Flying the rainbow flag to celebrate Galway’s diversity for the duration of Pride.
Launch Party: The Róisín Dubh, 7.30pm
Reception announcing the winners of the 2017 Pride of Galway Awards.
Drinks & Chat: Nova: 10.30pm
Join the Pride committee for a pint and chinwag!
Tuesday, August 8
Art Gallery Launch: 126 Gallery: 1pm
Special Pride exhibition featuring local LGBT+ artists.
LGBT+ Education and Film Night: The Róisín Dubh: 7pm
Education on issues affecting the LGBT+ community, followed by short film screenings at 9pm.
Wednesday, August 9
Mental Health Awareness Evening: Teach Solais: 7.30pm
Exploring the mental health issues that affect LGBT+ people with guest speakers.
Candlelit Vigil: Teach Solias to Eyre Square: 9.30pm
A humanist remembrance service for lost loved ones.
Thursday, August 10
BTQIA Tea Party: The Secret Garden: 4pm
Community afternoon tea, served with style.
LGBT+ People in Politics: Venue TBC: 7pm
As Ireland becomes only the fourth country with an out gay leader, we discuss the role of queer people on the political spectrum.
Cheesy Pop Night: The Róisín Dubh: 9pm til late
Get your flares, your leg warmers, and your dancing shoes on for this night of nostalgia on the dancefloor.
Friday, August 11
