The mayor of Tangerang, Indonesia has claimed that instant noodles and milk formula are to blame for babies growing up to be gay.

Mayor Arief R Wismansyah made the outlandish claim at a pregnancy seminar run by the city council. He is quoted as saying, “To create Indonesian children that are healthy smart and competitive, the most important thing is, from the beginning, to provide them adequate nutrition, especially breastfeeding… ”

Most would agree that children’s nutrition is very important. However, the mayor didn’t stop there. He went on to say that the busy lifestyles of parents have lead to children being fed milk formula and instant noodles, which has a permanent negative affect on their development, saying, “It’s no wonder that recently there are more LGBT.”

We won’t hold our breath for him to show us the scientific proof on this one…

While it is not illegal to be gay in Indonesia, many LGBT people will face prejudice in the predominantly Muslim country.

In the capital city Jakarta, gay people are legally labelled as “cacat” or mentally handicapped and are not protected under the law. Recently, Defense Minister Ryacudu declared that the the LGBT movement in Indonesia was a form of “proxy war” to destroy the country.
