Top Gear presenter, Jeremy Clarkson has apologised for an offensive picture tweeted from his Twitter account.

Clarkson, 53, was photographed next to a handwritten sign saying “gay cunt” while he appeared to be asleep on an early flight to Scotland yesterday  morning. His Top Gear co-host James May also appears in the picture, smiling in the background.

Clarkson tweeted the picture with the caption, “Sadly, I fell asleep on the plane.” The image has since been removed from his account.

Last night, Clarkson took to his Twitter account to apologise for the offensive image.

He wrote:

This is not the first time that Clarkson offended gay people. George Michael once claimed that Clarkson was homophobic after he allegedly made an offensive comment about the singer during a segment on Top Gear.
