John Travolta might need to borrow one of his beloved Scientology’s best publicists in the coming months as rumours that he is gay escalate with the release of a tell-all book by his alleged former boyfriend.
In a preview of the book, Doug Gotterba told The Enquirer that he began a sexual relationship with Travolta when the Grease actor interviewed him for a pilot job in 1981.
Their first encounter, he said, was in a hotel room in California where a massage lead to sex. “John was gentle, but very passionate”, the 62 year-old claimed. “The next day he told me with a big smile on his face, ‘I really enjoyed last night’, and I told him I did too”.
Gotterba told the publication that he acted as the star’s pilot as a way of covering up Travolta’s sexuality, which has been discussed in Hollywood for years, reaching an all-time high when a photo of the actor embracing Jeff Kathrein, a 29 year-old male nanny hired by Travolta.
“It was our little secret. Sometimes he’d bring women along as beards. But he would ask me to join him in his suite and we’d spend the nights together”, Gotterba told the celebrity magazine.
But that’s not all – apparently Travolta’s fever wasn’t just on Saturday nights, “John demanded that I come to his house at all hours of the day and night for sex. He was oversexed, and I knew that he had many other lovers on the side. Some of them I’d hear about, others he told me about himself”, the pilot revealed.
Travolta met Kelly Preston in 1987, and the couple married four years later, but plenty of Hollywoods gliteratti have expressed sympathy with 51 year-old Preston, including Joan Rivers, who makes a point of creating a John Travolta gay joke every week on her Fashion Police show, resulting in awkward looks on the faces of her celebrity co-hosts.
“I feel sorry for Kelly, she’s a lovely person, and she’s in the middle of this – it’s unfair to her”, Travolta’s alleged ex-lover stated. The last time the two men met, according to Gotterba, was a year after Travolta’s wedding. “I blurted out ‘Now that you’re married, do you still prefer men – or women?’ He looked me straight in the eye and said ‘Well Doug, I still prefer men!’
Scientology Homophobia?
Travolta remains married to Preston, and the couple has two young children, Ella Bleu (13) and Benjamin (3) and. Their son Jett died aged 16 in 2009 while on a family holiday in the Bahamas after suffering a seizure, which caused him to hit his head against a bath.
It was not until after Jett’s death that Travolta admitted his son was autistic. In Scientology, the religion that the actor and his family belong to, autism is not believed to exist.
The founder of the Church of Scientology, L Ron Hubbard, has made comments in the past that have lead critics to believe the religion promotes homophobia, though some members have denied this.
Travolta isn’t the only Hollywood actor to praise the Church of Scientology, with Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley, Shirley MacLaine and Laura Prepon also on Hubbard’s roster, while Demi Moore, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes have all been members of the Church in the past, but have since moved on.
What do you think about the release of the Travolta expose? Should the actor be ‘outed’ by those from his past, or should he be left alone to live his life with his family as he wishes? Tweet us @TheOutmost with your thoughts.
