‘Freeheld’ has been in the works for a long time, but FINALLY we have our first look at Ellen Page and Julianne Moore in the lesbian drama.

The highly anticipated film was written by Ron Nyswaner, who also wrote 1993’s Philadelphia, tells the true story of Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore), a New Jersey police detective who was dealt a devastating blow when she was diagnosed with a terminal illness and was prevented by the government from signing her pension benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Ellen Page).

While a release date has yet to be confirmed, the film was shot last summer and is now in post-production.

Ellen Page came out as a lesbian in 2014. Julianne Moore starred as a lesbian in The Kids Are Alright and is a staunch gay rights campaigner.

We can’t wait to see this on-screen couple. Get the tissues, it looks like a tearjerker!
