Kentucky Clerk Refuses To Issue Marriage Licenses Under "God's Authority"

video

Rowan County Clerk, Kim Davis, refused to issue a marriage license to a gay couple and the whole incident was caught on camera.

Despite the landmark ruling from the Supreme Court of the United States in June, which made same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states – one woman has defied the law under “God’s Authority”.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a contempt motion against the clerk, saying that she “violated a specific order” from the Supreme Court.

Lawyers arguing the side of Davis say that, ” [Her] conscience forbids her from approving a (same-sex marriage) license – because the prescribed form mandates that she authorise the proposed union and issue a license bearing her own name and imprimatur.”

“In her belief,” the lawyers claimed, same-sex marriage “is not, in fact, marriage” and that validating a same-sex marriage would “forever echo in her conscience.”
