The home of the former leader of SiegedSec, a disbanded group of self-described “gay furry hackers”, has reportedly been raided by the FBI. The group, known for its cyber-attacks on conservative institutions, has linked the raid to its past activities, including the hacking of The Heritage Foundation’s right-wing Project 2025.

SiegedSec came to prominence in 2022 as a hacktivist collective targeting anti-LGBTQ+ organisations. One of its most notable breaches occurred in July 2023, when the group claimed to have stolen 200GB of data from The Heritage Foundation. The think tank was behind Project 2025, a right-wing policy document outlining a conservative roadmap for a potential second Trump administration, focusing on issues such as abortion, the “natural family structure”, and diversity policies.

Vio, who was SiegedSec’s co-leader at the time, took responsibility for the attack via Telegram, stating that the leaked data included passwords and user information.

On 26 March, X user @mewmrrpmeow, who has been identified as a former SiegedSec member, reported that Vio’s home had been raided and that she was now “no longer accessible, contactable, or reliable.” They added that they were sharing the update due to the lack of official information and assured followers of their own safety. The claim was later supported by others, including fellow hacker Maia A. Crimew, known for leaking the US no-fly list in 2019.

Beyond its attack on The Heritage Foundation, SiegedSec has targeted major institutions, including a US nuclear research laboratory, where they demanded scientists focus on developing “real-life cat-girls.”

The group also claimed responsibility for hacking NATO, not once but twice. Their follow-up statement read: “meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow”.

In recent months, SiegedSec had largely disappeared from public view. While details of the FBI’s actions on the gay furry hacker group remain unclear, the raid on Vio’s home suggests authorities are still pursuing former members of the group.
