Taking place on Sunday, January 5, the 2025 Golden Globes kicked off the awards season by crowning some amazing queer talent and celebrating LGBTQ+ stories.

The annual ceremony took place last night at The Beverly Hilton, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. In addition to the announcement of the award winners, the event featured memorable moments and guest appearances by Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Andrew Garfield, and Kate Winslet.

The 2025 Golden Globes proved to be a resounding celebration of LGBTQ+ stories, as several of the queer nominations ended up winning awards.

Among the winners was Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer, the black comedy-drama thriller miniseries that had people glued to their screens after airing last April. The series took home the award for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

For her incredible portrayal of Martha in the show, queer actor Jessica Gunning also won the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Television Series award. Addressing the audience in her acceptance speech, the actor said: “I cannot believe any of this is happening to me. So I just want to say thank you to everyone who let me come on this journey.”

American comedy-drama Hacks was awarded Best Television Series—Musical or Comedy, while actor Jean Smart nabbed the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series—Musical or Comedy award.

Winning her fourth Golden Globe, Jodie Foster was awarded for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television thanks to her work in True Detective: Night Country.

After earning over $700 million and becoming the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation globally, Wicked received a Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

One of the biggest winners of the night was award-winning trans musical Emilia Pérez, which won the awards for Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy, Best Motion Picture—Non-English Language, and Best Original Song.

The Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy award was accepted by film star Karla Sofía Gascón, who made history as the first out trans actor to be nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress. In a powerful speech delivered during the ceremony, Gascón said: “I chose these colors tonight, the Buddhist colors, because I have a message for you. The light always wins over darkness.”

“I have a lot of things to say to you,” she continued. “You can maybe put us in jail, you can beat us up, but you can never take away our soul, our existence, our identity. And I want to say to you, raise your voice, and freedom, and say ‘I am who I am, not who you want.'”
