Madonna Refuses To Tour Russia

Pop superstar and gay icon, Madonna, has announced that she won’t be touring Russia due to it’s controversial “gay propaganda” law.

Madonna sat down with Entertainment Weekly this week to talk about her upcoming Rebel Heart world tour, which notably doesn’t stop in any Russian city. “I won’t appear in Moscow or St Petersburg anymore,” she said. “I don’t want to perform in places where being homosexual is tantamount to a crime.”

Notoriously anti-gay politician, Vitaly Milonov reportedly slammed the singer for her decision not to come back to Russia, accusing her of being a “hypocritical old lady” and “prioritising gay rights over the lives of children suffering.”

This is not the first time that the singer has spoken out against Russia. In 2012, she delivered an impassioned speech at a concert in Moscow, calling for the release of members of the feminist-punk band and activists, Pussy Riot, who were imprisoned and awaiting trial for protesting against Vladimir Putin.
