A Portugese man in the Algarve has confessed to stabbing a British man to death with a spear, reportedly after meeting him for sex.
20 year-old Eugenio Filipe Reicha told Algarve police that he killed the 58-year old Briton – named as Simon Carley-Pocock – with a spear after joining Pocock at his villa in popular holiday resort of Alcoutim.
Reicha was stopped by police for driving the Audi without a licence several days after the murder is thought to have taken place. He was questioned and later confessed to the murder, saying the attack happened in a drug-fueled rage. Pocock died from stab wounds to his chest, stomach and ribs.
Though the exact nature of the relationship between the men is unknown police have speculated that Reicha was a rentboy and the men may have met for sex.
“A small knife was discovered on the Portuguese man when he was searched and he ended up confessing to killing the British man who owned the car although with a different weapon, which he said he had thrown out of the car window,” said a police spokesman.
“He said he had used a spear which is yet to be confirmed because my understanding is it has yet to be found.”
“We don’t know for sure when the killing happened but we think it may have been Saturday. The Portuguese man says they had known each other for a while and met on Friday and went back to the victim’s house together. He says he killed him during a row after some drinks.”
Reicha is currently being held in Faro, where he will be questioned by the Policia Judiciaria.
