Harry Potter author and prolific tweeter JK Rowling wasted no time in silencing the Westboro Baptist Church after they said they would picket a hypothetical fictional wizard wedding.
After news of the passing of Ireland’s referendum on marriage equality, Rowling posted an internet meme which read ‘What if Dumbledore and Gandalf were gay together’, adding “Then they could get married IN IRELAND!”
Never one to let an opportunity for publicity pass them by, the Westboro Baptist Church announced that if such an occasion were to occur, they would certainly picket it.
Rowling wasted no time in challenge WBC’s nonsense. “Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.”
“I don’t care about WBC,” she added in a later tweet. “I think it’s important that scared gay kids who aren’t out yet see hate speech challenged.”
The Topeka, Kansas-based church, became the butt of much online derision this week after protesting the result of the referendum by printing up posters of Ireland’s flag with the message ‘Fag Flag’.
Except the flag the WBC used was that of the Ivory Coast, which is an inverse version of Ireland’s national flag.
