In 2017, there were 81 million visits to the porn site Pornhub on average per day and 595,482 hours of video was uploaded which would take 68 years to watch continuously.
YouPorn has just released its latest round of interesting statistics which show that users who self-identify as heterosexual spend a large proportion of their time on the site watching same-sex porn.
39% of straight women say they watch female only porn. Last year in Pornhub’s 2017 year in review, they found that the numbers show that people are more interested than ever before in ‘Porn for Women’, making it the top trending search throughout the year. They also report that females are almost twice as likely to search for lesbian porn when compared to their male counterparts.
“2017 seems to have been the year where women have come forward to express their desires more openly” notes Dr Laurie Betito, sex therapist and director of the Pornhub Sexual Wellness Center. “From the “Me too” movement to prominent females the likes of Hillary Clinton and Nikki Haley on the world stage, women are feeling more empowered and they have found their voice. This is a sign of things to come.”
In Pornhub’s Pride statistics in June 2017, they also uncovered that a massive 37% of all Pornhub visitors viewing gay male porn are female. These statistics do not filter women by sexual preference and so we assume that this viewership includes lesbian users. There has been speculation in the past that lesbian women watch a high proportion of male on male porn, however, no research has been undertaken to uncover the viewing patterns of females who like females.
On the matter of lesbian women being turned on by gay porn, sexologist, Shanna Katz said: “studies have shown that the types of naked bodies in photos and videos that turn us on are not always connected to the type of bodies that turn us on in current or potential partners.”
In respect of the self-identified straight male visitors to YouPorn, 24% of visitors watch male on male porn.
Many have questioned the reliability of these statistics, seeing as most users of porn sites report they do not have an account on the site and visit using ‘incognito mode’. In 2016, Pornhub responded saying that these statistics come straight from google analytics:
“Our gender (and age) data is not based on logged in users. The anonymous data comes from Google Analytics, which makes it’s own gender determinations based on what you’re most likely to search for and view on websites in general – this data is generally used to assist with targeted Google Adwords advertising. Of our 60 million daily visitors, about 25% have detailed demographics data available. The remainder without would account for people visiting our site in private mode, VPNs, etc.”
