A transman, who felt a bit bloated, was surprised to discover he was actually pregnant
When Kayden Coleman, now 29, started dating his boyfriend Elijah in 2012, he had been taking male hormones for almost a decade.
He figured these hormones would stop him getting pregnant.
However, one day he was feeling bloated and suffering from back pain so asked his boyfriend Elijah to give him a massage.
‘It felt like there was a pillow under my stomach, but there was no pillow,’ said Kayden to the Mirror Online.
He then joked to his boyfriend that they should go get a pregnancy test – and it came back positive.
A visit to his GP confirmed Mr Coleman was 21 weeks pregnant. The couple was shocked.
“I never thought about getting pregnant. Because of the male hormones, I didn’t think it was a possibility. It was definitely a surprise,” he told the Mirror Online.
“I was shocked. It took a while to process it. But I was also busy figuring out how we could make things work in such a short space of time,” he said.
The couple decided to get married and Kayden came out to those in his life who did not know he was transgender – including Elijah’s family.
In January 2014, he gave birth to baby daughter Azaelia.
They’ve learnt that the pregnancy was made possible because Kayden had taken a six-week break from using hormones, in preparation for a double mastectomy.
Speaking about his daughter, Kayden said: “I couldn’t imagine, and don’t want to imagine, life without her. She is amazing.”
