As 2023 draws to a close, we expect that many of our readers will be taking some much-needed downtime over the next few weeks to recover from a hectic year. With many people spending lots of time at home over the holiday season, it is important to have spaces to decompress. Nothing compares to your garden when it comes to relaxing and finding your happy place. Whether your backyard is large and open or tucked away in a small corner, your outdoor area is the key to a peaceful oasis.

In order to maximise your valuable downtime, there are a few garden lounge necessities that you’ll need. Let’s find out what it takes to design your ultimate outdoor space!

Comfort and more comfort
Obviously, you need a comfortable place to rest. Consider investing in a nicely cushioned outdoor garden lounge set, such as a cosy sofa, a few plush chairs, or maybe a soft swinging hammock. Just make sure the materials are strong enough to endure unpredictable Irish weather.

Outdoor lighting
If you’re trying to extend your relaxation hours well into the evening, then outside lighting is your best friend. Hang lanterns, string fairy lights, or place solar-powered garden lights across your lawn for a magical atmosphere. It will not only captivate the space but also transform your garden into an enchanted place to stargaze.

Shelter yourself
The weather, let’s face it, can be moody at times. You must have some kind of shelter to be prepared. When the sun gets too strong, a patio umbrella, a pretty pergola covered in climbing vines, or even sunshades and a retractable screen can offer cover when it starts to rain or provide shade.

Lots of greenery
We know that you are already outside, but don’t forget to bring in the green! Your lounging space will come to life with hanging baskets, potted plants, and lots of vibrant flowers. The ultimate stress relief is the sight and smell of nature.

Insect-repellent solutions
Don’t let those annoying bugs bother you too much. To guarantee that you have a lovely bug-free outdoor experience, keep some effective insect repellent nearby.

Include your personality
Add unique elements to your garden lounge to make it uniquely yours. Decorate the area with things that express your sense of style and personality, such as candles, your favourite artwork, or even a nice sculpture.

Building a garden lounge can turn your outside area into a peaceful place, regardless of how big or small your garden is. Make the most of your outdoor time and space by equipping your garden lounge with the essentials. Enjoy the quiet, and let your garden turn into the perfect escape from everyday life!
