Riffing off last week’s latest presidential election 2020 forum which focused on LGBT+ rights, SNL’s Kate McKinnon is back with another stellar impersonation. The 35 year-old star of Saturday Night Live portrayed one of the Democrat’s top contenders Elizabeth Warren during the ‘CNN Equality Town Hall Cold Open” skit during Saturday’s show.
The actual forum took place in Los Angeles on October 11 and presidential candidates including Pete Buttigieg, Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren criticised the Donald Trump administration’s rollback on LGBT+ rights.
The event was interrupted several times by demonstrators in the audience who were seeking to highlight the murder of black transgender women in the US.
Pete Buttigieg acknowledged the importance of what demonstrators were highlighting. He explained that being gay did not mean he understood the experiences of everyone in the LGBT+ community but said the community could turn diversity into a strength.
LGBTQ+ activists and organizers have made enormous strides toward equality—but that hard-won progress is already under attack. We need a president who is ready to fight back. I've got a plan to secure LGBTQ+ rights and equality. https://t.co/j8pelUdSmS

“Our country is so torn apart or so fragmented. And here we have an LGBTQ+ world that is everywhere,” said Mr Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and the first openly gay candidate to launch a serious presidential bid.
“We are in every state and every community. Whether folks realise it or not, we’re in every family. And that means we can also have the powers to build bridges.”
Elizabeth Warren, who has been extremely vocal about her support for the LGBT+ community, got a roaring response from the audience with her response to a question about how she would respond if someone told her marriage was between a man and a woman.
“I’m going to assume a guy said that,” she said, “And I’m going to say: Just marry one woman. I’m cool with that. Assuming you can find one.”
This answer set the tone for the SNL skit, which was MC’d by the incredible Billy Porter who gave each candidate a Drag Ball style introduction.

Recreating the question and answer given by Warren, both McKinnon and Porter donned reading glasses with Porter declaring “the library is now open”.

McKinnon then fires a number of reads at the audience member and tops everything off with a Sasha Velour ‘I Get So Emotional Baby’ style ruveal, complete with cutaways to audience reactions from the real ruveal from the Drag Race Season 9 finale.
