The Sylvia Rivera Law Project has launched a petition for safer housing of transgender inmates in the prison system. Actress and activist Laverne Cox reads aloud an open letter by one such inmate, Synthia China Blast, who has been incarcerated for over 20 years.
In the “self interview”, which is read by Cox, Blast describes the discrimination she has faced in prison and calls for change.
“I want my voice to be heard, I want my dreams to matter, I want people to know who I am because tomorrow is not promised.”
