Oxfam Ireland played Panti’s Noble Call speech for two VOVO members in Zimbabwe and filmed their reactions.
Supported by Oxfam, Voice of the Voiceless (VOVO) provides a safe space for LBT women in Zimbabwe to connect, share stories and raise the visibility of women’s issues within the broader LGBT community.
Carol and Sku are two such members of this collective and, in this video, are shown Panti’s Noble Call speech from the Abbey Theatre last year.
Carol and Sku speak of their own experiences, everything from crossing the street in a certain place, to their fear of ‘corrective’ rape.
Their reactions are moving and endearing while showing that – while their experiences vary greatly – homophobia has similar implications everywhere.
