Last night, Hollywood royalty descended upon the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California for the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards – but it was Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who stole the spotlight.

American Hustle, 12 Years A Slave, Gravity and Behind The Candelabra were all up for awards last night. Don’t worry, we won’t post the winners and spoil it for people tuning into the full ceremony this evening (9PM on RTE Two) – but we will say that the two Saturday Night Live alums left the audience in stitches with their opening monologue.

This was the second year that the best friend comedy duo have hosted the Golden Globes, as Tina Fey explains, “This is Hollywood – if something kind of works they just keep doing it until everybody hates it.”

In the hilarious monologue, Poehler and Fey thank all the “women and gay men” at home who have tuned in, and deliver some laugh-out-loud funny one liners.

Our favourites?

Gravity is nominated for best film. It’s the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.”
“Meryl Streep is so brilliant in August Osage County – proving that there are still great parts in Hollywood for Meryl Streeps over 60.”
Watch the entire opening monologue below.
