In celebration of Lesbian Visibility Week, our friends at GAZE International LGBTQ+ Film Festival are marking the occasion in style. GCN is thrilled to partner with them to give away a pair of tickets to a very special screening of The Wedding Banquet at Dublin’s Light House Cinema on Thursday, April 24.
A fresh reimagining of Ang Lee’s 1993 cult classic, this new take on The Wedding Banquet is set to captivate audiences with its blend of humour, heart, and honesty. The film features an incredible cast, including Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran, Han Gi-chan, Joan Chen, and Oscar-winner Youn Yuh-jung. This exclusive event is bound to be one of the highlights of the season.

The story follows Min, a gay man who strikes a deal with his lesbian best friend: they’ll enter a green-card marriage to solve his visa issues, and in return, she’ll receive help with in vitro fertilisation. But when Min’s grandmother unexpectedly arrives and insists on a traditional Korean wedding banquet, everything spirals into joyful chaos. As the characters navigate identity, family expectations, and chosen bonds, the film beautifully explores the messiness and magic of chosen queer family life.
While this reimagining nods to the original, it arrives in a world that has seen some progress in LGBTQ+ rights. The updated version doesn’t shy away from these changes but embraces them, introducing an extra character, reflecting the evolving conversations around marriage, with a discussion of choice coming to the forefront. Visibility and family dynamics look a little different in this modern version.
Tickets to this exclusive screening are extremely limited, but you could be in with a chance to win a pair! To enter, simply answer the following question:
In what year was the original The Wedding Banquet film released?
The competition closes on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Winners will be contacted directly and shared on social media.
