Win Tickets To A Special Screening of 'Irene' At The IFI!

irene

Win a pair of tickets to a special screening of ‘Irene’ (1926) on December 6th –  a fascinating historical piece and highly entertaining classic film.

Recently acquired from the Museum of Modern Art in New York, this early Irish emigrant comedy follows Irene (Colleen Moore) as she leaves her beer-swilling father (Charles Murray) and her washerwoman mother (Kate Price) for the bright lights of New York City.

Her job with boutique proprietor Madame Lucy (George K. Arthur in one of the earliest gay characterisations on screen) provides much comic potential and the film’s climax is a startling two-strip Technicolor fashion sequence in an otherwise black and white film.

Irene is a highly entertaining vehicle for the indomitable Colleen Moore, one of the most fashionable stars of the silent era, and the warmly comedic Cork-born Kate Price.

This screening takes place at 4PM on Sunday, December 6 and will be accompanied by pianist Morgan Cooke.
