Today is the 16th annual Bi Visibility Day – and to celebrate, we’re running down through 10 celebrities who are bi, and don’t hide it.
-
Drew Barrymore (actor)
“Do I like women sexually? Yeah, I do. Totally. I have always considered myself bisexual. I love a woman’s body. I think a woman and a woman together are beautiful, just as a man and a woman together are beautiful. Being with a woman is like exploring your own body, but through someone else.”
2. Billie Joe Armstrong (musician)
“I think I’ve always been bisexual… I mean, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. I think everybody kind of fantasises about the same sex. I think people are born bisexual, and it’s just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of Oh, I can’t. They say it’s taboo. It’s ingrained in our heads that it’s bad, when it’s not bad at all. It’s a very beautiful thing.”
3. Carrie Brownstein (musician & actor)
“It’s weird, because no one’s actually ever asked me. People just always assume [that I am gay], like, you’re this or that. It’s like, ‘OK. I’m bisexual.’”
4. Alan Cumming (actor)
“I still define myself as a bisexual even though I have chosen to be with Grant. I’m sexually attracted to the female form even though I am with a man and I just feel that bisexuals have a bad rap.”
5. Megan Fox (actor)
“I think people are born bisexual and the make subconscious choices based on the pressures of society. I have no question in my mind about being bisexual. “
6. Gillian Anderson (actor)
“I’m not opposed to coming out of the damn closet because, really, what am I hiding? That I can love both men and women? No one should care!”
7. Evan Rachel Wood (actor)
“I think in some cases people don’t want to be labeled because they are ashamed to be bisexual. And this needs to stop. I have battled with myself most of my life because I wasn’t gay or straight enough. I used to think I would never be happy…
“Point being, its ok. We do exist. Don’t let anyone make you feel unworthy. No one knows your journey but you.”
8. Cynthia Nixon (actor)
“I don’t pull out the ‘bisexual’ word because nobody likes the bisexuals. Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals… We get no respect.”
9. Anna Paquin (actor)
“I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision.”
10. Sammy Davis Jr (musician)
Paul Anka on Sammy Davis Jr: “He was completely open about his sexuality, and got into his bisexuality. He loved England, went over there a lot, and was very open with an eclectic group of people he hung out with. He would confide these things to me, how cool it was to be involved with two women, with guys. He’d say, “Hell, man, I’m living my life the way I want to. No restraints, no hang-ups. It’s my time and I’m gonna do it the way I want to.”
