The Liberties Festival returns with a stellar programme of events. Here's your guide for what not to miss at this year's festival!

The Liberties Festival fast approaches and this year’s programme has some top class acts for the whole family to look forward to.

One of Ireland’s oldest and longest running festivals, the non-profit, community and arts event is returning for its 49th year. After winning Festival of the Year at the LAMA national community and council awards last year, it looks like the Liberties are going tone oozing with an incredible array of events.

Here are 3 of the must see events at this years Liberties Festival…

The Comedie Cabaret 

Saturday 22nd July, 9pm, Guinness Storehouse, St James’s Gate,Usher’s Quay, Dublin 8.

The Comedie Cabaret offers a combination of top class comedy and burlesque acts. Performing on the night are Queens of Pop, a pop satire drag act, one of Ireland’s most creative burlesque performers Azaria Starfire, aerial contortionist Spinal Gap, and musical comedian Teresa Livingston, all emceed by long-time festival volunteer Carmel. Plus, all attendees will be given a free tour of the Guinness Storehouse! What’s not to love?

The Nighthawks

Friday 21st July, 8.00pm, Stage 19 Frances Street Dublin 8

This premier premier sell-out art collective returns for another year to The Liberties Festival. This combination of music, comedy and poetry is guaranteed to make for a night of top class entertainment. With music by Shane Hennessy and eight-piece futuristic Afro-soul band Fehdah, and performances by novelist and playwright Dermot Bolger and comedian/Aprés Match star Barry Murphy, this looks like a total festival highlight.

A Night at the Opera 

Friday 21st, July 8:30pm, St. Audoen’s Roman Catholic Church.

This outdoor Opera event will take places in  The Courtyard of St. Audoen’s Roman Catholic Church. The festival gives the opportunity to experience your favourite opera classics amidst Dublin City’s urban soundscape. This unique open air event is not to be missed.
