Chula Vista Veterans Home made history this week, when it hosted it’s first ever same-sex wedding ceremony.

95-year-old World War II veteran, John Banvard, married his boyfriend, Vietnam War veteran, Gerard Nadeau (67), at the senior living facility in California this week.

The couple have been together for over 20 years, and have lived at the home for the past three. They say they had been waiting on the Supreme Court to legalise marriage in all 50 states before they got hitched – even though same-sex marriage was legal in California since Prop 8 was overturned in 2010.

“We were waiting on the Supreme Court to make that decision,” said Banvard.

The ceremony was witness by a handful of residents and friends in the facility. One guest commented, “The world is changing, we have to go along with it.”
