Cork Pride are throwing a fabulous online Pride AID fundraising concert towards supporting the vital work of LGBT Ireland this Easter Sunday.
On April 12, the unmissable Facebook Live concert will be kicking off at 7pm and running until 9:30pm. The lineup brings together the incredible talents of Paul Ryder, Stevie G, Sparkle, Guilty Judges, The Old Moderns, Claire O Mahony, Muireann Ní Cuilleann, Letycha Le’Synn, Mia Gold, and Nettles.
Chairperson of Cork Pride, Clive Davis described how Pride AID came about, “As a committee we’re always looking at new ways to interact with and support the LGBT+ community. This is a particularly hard period for those in the community that may be living alone or in hostile environments and we want to assist LGBT Ireland in providing the essential supports needed.”
Paul Ryder announced the exciting new event with some hints towards a surprise announcement from Cork Pride on the day. Speaking on the importance of Pride AID, he said, “As we know, helplines globally are working overtime at the moment to help those struggling in lockdown. No more so than LGBT Ireland, so this Sunday, Easter Sunday, is for them.”
During this time of social distancing, the LGBT+ community have been discovering different ways to overcome challenges in light of the closure of queer spaces. LGBT+ services are undergoing various changes so that support networks are still available, with LGBT Ireland announcing new initiatives to help people struggling during lockdown.
LGBT Ireland’s Chief Executive Officer, Paula Fagan, said of the event, “We are so grateful to Cork Pride and all of the artists and performers involved in this event for giving up their time to organise and participate in this great initiative. As a community it is important during the current COVID-19 restrictions that we stay connected and have a chance to socialise. This concert is a great way for people to have fun while staying at home and staying safe while also raising funds for our vital helpline, online chat and face-to-face services.”
